Naugatuck River Update...

22.07 West Haven.

Today saw a productive trip up the Naugatuck River, something I had not planned on doing - only because I felt the tide was too low. But to my surprise, I made it as far as Division Street and in the process filled yet another 45 gal trash liner. I felt bad because I was supposed to visit David and Cheryl at CT Outdoors today, but the kayaking bug bit real hard after missing about 14 days...

The trip started out as usual at O'Sullivan's Island in the early afternoon. By chance, the Housatonic was not really flowing outwards too bad, so I decided to journey up to the Derby Shelton dam. This was oe nice trip, the snow looked beautiful - and even though it started to rain, I was at peace. I was one with the elements, happy and truly feeling good.

Not much was really going on. I brought hot coffee for the trip, and enjoyed a cup at the dam while slowly drifting by where Mary Grant would occasionally spot me while she was out doing her own clean up work. I wonder what ever happened to her...

The only wildlife spotted was about 35 turkey vultures - all looking at me from the top of the old buildings on Canal Street towards the locks...

Back at O'Sullivan's Island with a light but steady rain, I marveled as to how the lagoon was already frozen. Lots and lots of seagulls... There were several lage sections of ice floating about as well. For the most part, the are looked really good. Of course, there was fishing line to be picked up, but this is the norm and unfortunately not the exception...

Once I decided to extend this trip up the Naugatuck River, I knew I made the right choice. The litter in the river -while heartbreaking - at the same time was a welcome sight - because I knew that I had enough room where I could retrieve most of it - which is exactly what I did.

By dark I was back at the boat launch. Cold, with not so hot coffee - but knowing that I'll be out again tomorrow and Monday as well. I want to say I've made 82 trips this year, I know I've done at least 80 so I should by year end hit close to 85 trips total, which while short of 100 is still pretty damn good.

22.20

While I'm a day late and a dollar short, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

I'll be back here soon with more updates as far as my defending the Air Trees Water and Animals go...

Housatonic River Update

23.54 West Haven.

Today saw the first cold trip of the season, in fact - parts of the lagoon in O'Sullivan's Island were starting to freeze. For once, there was very little litter / debris in the river, but I still managed to haul out a huge sheet of white plastic which may or may not have been somebodies home. I saw numerous Great Blue Heron on both sides of the river from O'Sullivan's Island south to Two Mile Brook.

I only went to the southernmost portion of Two Mile Island before opting to turn around and head back.

As the sun started to set, the ice started to form all over the forward deck of my Walden Sports Tandem "The Dancing Ferret"...

As I've mentioned before, this boat is set up as a solo boat which goes with me everywhere via my jeep for quick launching at a moments notice.

00.02

Typically, the trips become slightly reduced this time of year - due to both weather concerns and amount of daylight available, although this starts to work in my favor once Christmas rolls in (the sun sets later, while the sun does not start to rise earlier until after New Year's).

I sent Theresa Gallagher an email thanking her for the certificate which the mayor of Shelton even signed. This mean much, it's the little thing's which always matter most.

As time goes on, the amount of recognition recieved is less and less while the target on my back seems to get bigger and bigger.

Time to enjoy some Rustico's Mellow Red Wine. It's my reward, and I've earned it today...

O'Sullivan's Island / Naugatuck River Update.

21.51 West Haven.

Hello Friends !!

Once again, a real good outing on the river. Although I started too late, I still retrieved a whole lot of trash from the waterways around (and in) O'Sullivan's Island. I started right at high tide so I wasted no time getting into the big pond via the secret stream. It was great - got out and checked out the two smaller ponds - then proceeded up the Naugatuck River up towards RT 34, concentrating on whatever I could fish out of the river banks which just last week I cleaned so well. It's frustrating when one does such a thorough clean-up only to return and have it look like nothing ever got done. But this is why I do what I do year round - because the trash never cease's to exist. I saw a huge blue heron - who just kept an eye on me and did not even fly away...

Best part of the trip was heading back in the darkness - and seeing the water starting to freeze up on the bow / fwd deck...

I probably pulled out about 25 gal's worth of trash. If I had the canoe, I would have filled it - but today I had my trusty beater boat "The Dancing Ferret" named after ChrisTDF of Brooklyn NY. It's a Walden Sport Tandem set up as a solo clean-up / rescue boat for winter ops. Incidently, my summer beater boat is an Ocean Kayak "Sidekick" named "Lesile Leeds"...

That's about it for this week. I'll be back out on the river next week.

O'Sullivan's Island / Naugatuck River Update.

20.35 West Haven.

Man, it feels good to do one of these posts again, today I got out for about 4 hours or so, maybe a little bit longer - but I was able to achieve something I try to do 2x a year: Detail clean the river banks from Rt 34 back to where the Naugatuck River meets the mighty Housatonic....

As I always do on a major clean-up, I used my trusty Defenders of ATWA rowing canoe named JeniferLynn after the 2 leading ladies of the HVA (who I have nothing to do with anymore)...

It's an Old Town Osprey 155 - which is the perfect river clean up craft for large scale clean-ups...

20.40

As expected, not a single soul acknowledged my presence - maybe my reputation is catching on and people know to keep their distance. Lets face it, what I do is dirty, filthy, disgusting - and when somebody asks me how the fishing when it's clear that I am doing a clean-up - what am I supposed to say ??

So, anyhow - I covered all the river banks (and then some) on both sides of the Naugatuck River from Rt 34 back to the Housatonic - and filled to the brim 3 x 45 gal trash liners. That's about what I pulled out from the weeds earlier this year - I'm curious if it will be the same amount next year.

In the midst of all this maddness, I lost my trusty telescoping net - so back out tomorrow I go to see if I can find it - via kayak...

BUT I FOUND A SUPER COOL HAND CARVED WOODEN BUDDAH !!

I was surprised at the amount of spent shot gun shells I found, I stuck a couple in my hat for good measure...

Nothing else to report except that for now, the waterways around O'Sullivan's Island are immaculate...

I'll be back soon.

Black Friday

17.14 West Haven

Today is being spent at my Wolfs den in the little room with Vera the cat.

I checked out some of the activity going on with the NVPC yahoo group - which I am a silent member of, and after reading a couple of posts - I shall remain so...

There is nothing which I can contribute there anyway - but the reading is interesting none the less...

Tomorrow, I am hopeful that I can get a full day of river clean-up in using the JeniferLynn, which is my Defenders of ATWA rowing canoe...

Of course, now that I'm back to posting here, this site is giving me a hard time when I log in - so if I suddenly become silent, this is why...

I always considered this to be my enviromental site, and although it does get pretty wild at times here with the way I post, the posts are none the less the absolute truth of what it is I am up against...

After 3 solid years of solo river clean-up work, I am still a target. I am still hated, even more so when I am seen in my ATWA jacket, complete with the correct swastika...

But the results which I achieve cannot be denied... Loads and loads of trash, which thankfully the Public Works folks haul away for me - 52 weeks out of the year...

17.30

The Miller High Life's are kicking in good.

U2's "In The Name Of Love" is pumping through the Purple Demon...

There is no question that I am ALL THE WAY ALIVE.
There is no question that I am ALL THE WAY ALONE in my jihad in the name of ATWA.

Nobody puts in the effort / work in that I do year round.

Because I am not tied in with any of the so called GOOD eco groups, the ones only interested in your money - this in effect makes me according to some a terrorist.

Why? Because I act alone.

So be it.

17.35

If anyone wants to get involved with helping me with defending the AIR, TREES, WATER, and ANIMALS - it's not your money that I would want...

No, it would be your life which is what I would be after...

Think about it...

17.37

Contrary to popular belief, I am very approachable - just don't be stupid.

ATWA = TRUTH = LOVE

...ya dig??

Reprise...

15.41 East Derby.

No A.T.W.A related work going on at the moment - it's way too hot outside - and between my hypoglycimia ( low blood sugar ) and my Minere's Disease - it's best I relax and reflect for a couple of days or so...

Since Memorial Day - I've been at the defense plant every day - working 10 to 14 hours a day - outdoors - on a project I'm not at liberty to discuss. The heat kills me. I am so glad that this will be the last summer I am on this current assignment - since dynamic testing turned out not to be for me - too much pressure, responsibility - for too little pay - not too mention an ultra flexible schedule - which most of the time worked against me... Believe me, being "on call" is no joke...

I'm at the Fire Sta. right now. When my computer at home does not allow me to do certain thing's - I come here - usually really late at night - and "make it happen" when no one else is around to see what it is exactly I am up to... But it's late afternoon - and I really got to get this message out for all to see who read this particular site here on BlogSpot. Lucky for me - I'm alone and able to pull it off right now - so...

Ok - Here's the deal:

Unfortunately I can no longer update this site from home - so after today - I will be no longer updating this site "earthbound-atwa" but I will keep it active - along with the word press site "earthboundatwa" - in the sense that I will not be taking it down or off-line...

I refuse to have to upgrade an operating system which I am comfortable with - even if it is real primative. I really like how most advertisments won't run on it ( as opposed to this machine I'm using right now ). Because BlogSpot decided to recently upgrade - they have now lost me as a member - because I'm not playing their little 'upgrade' game...

There's a couple of other additional reason's I'm letting this site lapse - I guess the real one is because of why I set it up in the first place - which was "as a means to post A.T.W.A related messages on a site using the same forum as say Col. Scott, JimNY, and A.C. while being able to express my own personal views and observations on similar matters regarding Charles et al...

But now I realize that both this and the similar site I ran on WordPress "earthboundatwa" - which was slightly more political in nature - really distracted from my original ecological site - which I want to make mention of right here: http://george_waters.livejournal.com/

Effective today, this LJ site mentioned above will RETURN to being my ecological site - as well as where I really discuss whatever is on my mind...

If one really wants to know me - it's all there on LJ for you to read - uncensored - and as real as it gets. My LJ profile is over 12 pages long - if you were to print it out - better to just 'save' it and make a tree happy - plus not too mention it get's updated on a fairly regular basis as well...

As for this BlogSpot site - well, the last real entry posted here "...and the beat goes on!!" really sums it all up. I advise anyone who is stumbling upon this blog to read it - then you can decide if you should dive even further into what this particular site had to offer - since it's all still very very relevant today...

I almost did not want to post a new entry as my "goodbye" after reading "...and the beat goes on!!" - but then I felt it would not be fair to folks like A.C. who visited this site on a regular basis - they need to know where I'm at now - and more importantly: why...

A.C. is one of the few genuine people left in this world: A good woman who has a good family, someone I am proud to be able to call a real friend in this chaotic often uncertain world...

I admire her very much - along with a gent who goes by the name Frank M. here on Blogspot - who REALLY has it together - and is not afraid to speak his mind - which he always does in a very civil and respectful manner...

15.47
Well, it's time to do the Scott AirPack inspections and see if the big red engine needs fuel...

For those who liked visiting here - I apologize for moving operations back to LJ - but I really had no other choice - since I could no longer update this site from home.

I sincerely hope that you will choose to continue to follow my jihad in the name of A.T.W.A on my LJ site - as my message is strong and deserves to be heard...

...and that message is: Love, Truth, and Respect... All The Way Alive !!
